The film industry is a business of trends, waves, ups, and downs.  With such a stressful and  competitive environment, it's no wonder states are in full competition to reel in out of town talent.

There's states like California, who once saw all the crowds rush to make an impact in the entertainment industry. Now, tax breaks, opportunities in new passionate communities, and independent filmmakers are changing that landscape...

Dear Sacramento : Greta Gerwig’s upcoming full-length film, 'Lady Bird,' showcases her hometown pride — but what does it mean for film-making in the Capital Region?...

We always hear that there are so many big films that have been produced in Sacramento. Honestly, there are probably far more films than we know, that are filmed in the River City.

We focus so much on the big names and projects that are potentially poised to visit the Capital of California. But what about all of the independent filmmakers, actors, and writers who spend most of their time in Sacramento?

Film Production : The Simple Basics

By InsaneBuzz Staff

Technology is a beautiful thing. It allows us to stay in touch with our world with the touch of a button. Video is now at the tip of our fingers. The question is, why not take advantage of this useful tool to reach the customers we might have?

Today, high quality video is readily available on devices such as cell phones and several other portable devices. It's important to know what that means, and what the best way to take advantage of it may be. We have so much technology, we frequently don't know what to do with it. There are some things you can do to capitalize on these  opportunities.

Step 1.

Organization is key. It's always a good idea to at least get some type of plan down on paper.  If there is no kind of storyboard, a written summary is always a good start. This way, rather than filming and trying to get the best of what you shot afterward, you can shoot what it is you plan to capture, and then narrow it down until you have the best to work with.

Step 2.

Camera stability is a big aspect of filming. Movement is only desirable in certain situations. A tripod, jib, or other stabilizing device can work wonders. If these tools are not available, be sure to try your best to keep the camera movement minimal. Still cameras will need different settings to achieve this result.

Make sure that all of your settings are set prior to shooting. When moving, you always want your camera to only slowly move. Also, it's best to keep the movement in a single direction. Get as much footage as possible. It's very hard to duplicate scenes/settings. It's good to get everything while you can. You can always get rid of what you don't need.

3. When it comes to filming, lighting is the key. Many people don't realize just how important the lighting really is to your final exposure. Try to keep the lighting consistent. Do not shoot directly into light. Lighting can possibly be the most important factor in video. Even more so than the camera you're shooting with.

4. Audio is probably next in significance. Having someone talk over traffic or a crowded nightclub is a nightmare. Make sure that you have fairly quiet backgrounds if you plan on having someone talk on camera. The microphones that come with today's cameras are fairly sensitive. Even indoors, sounds like refrigerator noise, voices in other rooms, etc. can make a big difference in the final outcome of your project.

U2 opens four-night Boston stint with dazzling video production, revival fervor

By Jay N. Miller
For The Patriot Ledger

Like perhaps no other rock band of its era, U2 excels at that mystical quality where melding words and music achieve something infinitely more meaningful than the sum of its parts. It is art that hits you at a visceral level, so that even if you may not know exactly what they're singing about, you intrinsically feel everything they're singing about.

Show must go on in Hermiston Relay for Life video production

Video production students from Armand Larive Middle School learned an important lesson of live television Friday: Even the best laid plans will go awry.

Students from the class volunteered to help produce a live online video feed for the entire 16 hours of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, but the extreme heat was throwing a wrench in the works.

Organizers decided to move the first couple of hours of the relay indoors, rendering the large camera the students had rigged up on the roof of the Armand Larive track press box useless for capturing the opening ceremony.

Producing Corporate Video? Follow LinkedIn’s Lead

Bryan Bolan

I recently came across LinkedIn’s Sales Navigator lead generation tool and was most impressed with their video production promoting the app.

Simply put, this is how it’s done. LinkedIn was able to bring the human element to their corporate videos by being empathetic (bringing out the emotion) and real (always having the viewers perspective in mind).

How can you do the same? By developing a video production strategy that humanizes your brand. Keyword being strategy.

Video Streaming Advertising for Small Business - Tips and Guides

By Micheal Fletcher-Jones

This is the first article in a series for operators of businesses who actually want some real practical everyday answers about streaming video and online advertising - what's the best way to do it, and how does it work in the real world?

First of all, let me disclose that I'm a producer of streaming videos and online advertising. I've been making commercials and online tours using streaming video for local businesses in Perth, Western Australia for about the last three years, after coming from a background in film and television. From what I've experienced, there's a steep learning curve and a methodology particular to streaming video, not only in a technical or production sense, but also in terms of business use and marketing.

Using Videos and Vlogs As Internet Strategy to Get Visitors

By Ajay Prasad

Videos are an effective way to get a message across to our clients and yet they are still under used. With the explosion of web 2.0, videos can be supported by most sites and they can be hosted cheaply too. A vlog is short for videoblog. It is a blog which uses video as the primary content as technically it is linked to within a videoblog post. A vlog is accompanied by supporting text, image, and additional meta data to provide a context for the video. Vlog like Blogs are updated regularly, generally includes personal reflections, comments and often take advantage of RSS for syndication to other web sites and aggregator software (rss readers).

Why use videos?
